G503 WWII 1945 Willys MB Jeep Type II Filter Suppression Capacitors


This article describes the Electrical Type II Filter Suppression Capacitor researched by Mark Tombleson. Mark's 1944 MB-NAVY-MZ-1 Radio Jeep is a terrific restoration project.

This article applies to Willys MB WWII Military Jeeps 


1. The Type II Suppression that Nabholtz shows as starting Dec 43 with MB serial # 289001. Here is a list of filters that you need for the Type II Suppression.
WO-A-8010 filter, .25 MFD., mounted to voltage regulator, mounts to the screw closest to the front of the jeep and attaches to the battery terminal of the regulator.
WO-A-8883 filter unit, .01 MFD is closest to the dash.

2. WO-A-7849 filter, .5 MFD., mounted on starter motor switch on the hot terminal side.

4. WO-A-8884 filter, 0.01 MFD., mounted to ignition switch on the hot terminal side.

5. WO-A-7848 filter, 0.1 MFD., mounted on coil stud… is the stud attaching the coil bracket to the block, using the stud closest to the rear of the

6. WO-A-5337 filter unit, .1 MFD, generator ground to armature circuit mounts on the screw for the generator ground and attaches to the armature terminal of the generator.

7. WO-A-7600 filter unit, .5 MFD, for the radio terminal box found under the passengers seat (box bolts into 4 holes in side panel).

8. The rest of this section will deal with bond straps and their locations. This would be correct for MB 288835 or later.

WO-A-5038

Bond Strap, This is located in the Radio terminal box under the passenger seat.

9. WO-A-5033 or WO-A-7826 Bond Strap, From Engine Head connecting back to the tub (cowl).

10. WO-A-5035 Bond Strap, This strap connects the hand brake cable, speedometer cable, heat indicator cable to dash.

Nut is 5/16-24-NF-2

11. WO-A-5039 Bond Strap, this strap is connected from gas line to the tub firewall.

Note: This is for those jeeps with Fuel Strainers on the Firewall

12. WO-A-5040 Bond Strap, this connects the choke/throttle and oil gauge line to the tub firewall.

Note: Some ACM II bodies did now have a stud included on the tub for this strap. In this case, this strap would not be included. On this tub there is no stud available.

13. WO-A-5037 WO-A-7826 Bond Strap, this connects the generator mounting bolt to the starter motor bracket

14. WO-A-5041 Bond Strap, this is the generateor regulator ground.

15. WO-A-5034 Bond Strap, this is the ignition coil to the cylinder block

16. WO-A-1098 Bond Strap, this is the engine front plate to frame

17. WO-A-5036 Bond Strap, this is the engine front plate to frame left

18. NOT suppression II
This bond strap is shown in the SNL Feb 1945, but is actually suppression I system. .......WO-A-5027
Bond Strap, this is the exhaust pipe tack welded to the frame

19. NOT suppression II
This bond strap is shown in the SNL Feb 1945, but is actually suppression I system. .......WO-A-5032
Bond Strap, these are the two radiator studs to frame straps

20. WO-A-5031 Bond Strap, this is the rear engine support to frame cross member stud.

21. WO-A-5030 Bond Strap, this is the transfer case to body floor stud.

NOTE: on some of the later ACM II bodies this stud is not available, therefore this bond strap would not be applied.

22. WO-A-1699 these are the hood to brush guard left and right.

23. WO-A-11766 these are the hood to tub (cowl) straps.

Note: these are longer on Willys than on the Fords

24. On MB's the TM's call out using star washers on the connections for the suppression. Here are some of the examples of the In and Out locking star washers.

25. In addition, some of the star washers are just outer locking

26. Many jeeps are missing the locking PAL nut. These nuts are on many of the suppression II bolts and studs
